Reading, Reading, Reading
Is much more fun than weeding.
Why not set up a meeting
with some friends today
at your local library down the way.

You can plant the seed,
to get young ones to read.
Read to them everywhere.
Even if people stare.
You can read to them on a boat,
While you are afloat.
You can read to them when they have the flu,
and when they are at the zoo.
You can read to them in bed,
after they are fed.
Just make sure you do
And soon they will be doing it too.

Rows and rows of books,
You should come take a look.
You will be hooked.
Books on how to make
a cake.
Books on laughter,
if that is what you are after.
Books to make you smart
If you take them to heart.
Books about History
It will not longer be a mystery.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry
and maybe even sigh.
So much in one place,
so don’t make haste,
or waste
any more time.
No need to whine,
Branches are open 6 days a week,
if you seek.
Some are open seven
you will think you are in heaven.

This is a new day.
So make way
for some fun
Before summer is done.
Three more weeks before the end
so please send
in your poem
You can even send it from home.

The library has it all.
It is better than the mall.
Everything you want,
without having to hunt.
Music, movies, and books galore
You will even come back for more.

There once were some kids who would read,
and read, and read–with great speed!
They’d find a good nook,
curl up with a book.
The library they truly did need!

My family and I LOVE the A.A. County Public Libraries because there are many convenient locations; they are free to everyone; they offer a wide variety of books, music, movies, classes, and more; the staff are always happy and helpful; and there are many educational programs for the entire family.
We started going to the library when our daughter was a baby. We would check out many books at a time to read in the library, in the car, at doctor offices, at home – where ever we were, we could always take a good book with us to read. As our daughter got older, she would help pick out the books and VHS tapes that we would get. Did you know that you can take out 100 books per library card? All for FREE. We have enjoyed story time at night. Our daughter would put on her pjs and say, “Mommy and daddy, let’s go – time to go to the library to read, hear stories, sing songs, and do crafts.” Our daughter has participated in the Summer Reading Program since she was 1 1/2 years old. She looks forward to signing up every summer. We are very happy that the library has the Summer Reading Club for adults too. Our daughter got her own library card when she was four years old. She was so proud to write her own name on her card at the library and check out her own items. She went home from the library that night and called her grandpa and every one else to tell them about her own library card. The library staff at our library all know us by name because we are there so often and check out tons of stuff. Our daughter checks out stacks of books at one time, goes home and reads them all usually in one night. The next day she is back at the library returning them and getting another stack to read. We highly recommend the library to EVERYONE. There is so much to see and do.
To all that work, volunteer, and put on programs at the library – THANK YOU for all you do!!

A quiet place to read
Relax and rest
Public libraries are the best
Pick up a novel
Or a story book
So many things to do
Take a look!
It’s quiet, and peaceful
A great place to be
The public library is the place for me!

This painting is abstract and represents the growth and the beauty that I see in my family from spending time at the public library reading. I’m not so good at painting realistically, so this is my abstract version of what I see and think about. Hope you like it.
Thanks.
