I dedicate this poem to all of my teachers who tried to teach me to be more creative. I thank Lisa for telling me about the “I Love AACPL Program”. I thank my mother for being my editor, and I especially thank AACPL for creating this program. This program put me to the challenge to see if I had any creativity. I had fun this summer! Thank you all again!
STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART
I sat in school all broken hearted.
English class had just started.
Our teacher had assigned us to write a poem,
An original one, never spoken.
The teacher continues to teach,
The words that just might reach.
“Here are the rules that you must take.
Follow them and you might Ace!”
What to do now?
I don’t know how.
I never wrote well
Poems that could sell!
The years have past.
Now I see a library contest!
“Create something that shows how you like us!
No grades, but you might get
A terrific gift certificate!”
Here I sit now,
Words flow, I think now I know that,
Teachers who only gave me a start,
Wanted me to write praises to the library
That flow straight from my heart!

Busy as a little bee,
I stopped at Maryland City library,
the adult summer reading contest had just begun,
I thought why not enter and have some fun!
An essay, a poem, or even a song,
I tried my best, what could go wrong?
I wrote and wrote and wrote some more,
entered the contest with hopes galore,
I won the contest and I’m glad as can be,
I’ll enter again at my favorite library!
It’s fun and pretty easy to do,
if I can do it you can too,
So start writing and using the talents you have,
you may win and then you’ll really be glad,
Show off what you didn’t realize you could do,
everyone’s a winner so why not let it be you!
